it lookes a bit like pinched mantle from what i understand, and I've heard that there isnt much you can do for them. The fatality rate is like 99% if it is PMD (this is what i was told at the LFS.) although it could jsut be bothered and closed up a little on one side, my maxima does that when a snail bumps it. are there any aiptasia or stinging corals near it? (LPS)

    Heres a good link:

Agree with PMD. I lost a 4 inch crocea to that a while back. Some recommend a FW dip to correct the issue, but it is likely a bust.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Auto correct not working Alex.

Honestly I have never had much luck with small clams, under 2 inches and not for lack of trying. Nor have I been very swayed by the carbon argument. PMD is caused by a protozoan, which seems to be the most current and likely theory, how chemical filtration would help I can not really see. Sometimes adding more carbon is not necessarily a good thing.

Mikejrice is a good resource for anything clams.

If it is PMD I would be really surprised if any intervention helped. The entire mantle should be crimped not just one portion retracted, that comes later.

Feeding phyto to small clams has never made much of a difference for me either, and again not for lack of trying.

    Good Luck.

be careful adding carbon if you dont use it regularly...it can bleach ur corals fast.....i made that mistake before...

The clam should be placed on rocks not in the sand and maybe unhappy since it can not attach to something. Also it would be happy higher up in the tank on your rocks. Crocea and maxima clams are rock dwellers and do much better on the rocks and a nice level surface so they can attach and orient themselves to the flow in your tank.
