I have a 38 gallon IM tank and I am looking for some reef safe fish and was wondering what is recommended, it is a reef tank and the only fish I have in there now is a dragonet. Any thoughts?

Cheryl lists some good ones. also; Orchid dottyback, blue chromis, banghai cardinals, flame hawkfish or something like a tail spot blenny.

I have the same tank... Any gobies are good, dottybacks, clowns and normal nano fish. I'm thinking of a cherub angel, but not sure yet.

What are you looking for? I'd highly recommend the orchid dotty, I just got one! Real pretty fish!

clowns for sure :) I love my little hawkfish. Yellow watchman gobies are very, very cool fish. Have you looked at barnacle blennies? I think Vinny has one and they are the cutest little things! I know many here will recommend various types of wrasses as colorful and interesting fish - they usually are pretty active....

    OFK,

We used to have a little colony of six barnacle blennies (A. balonorum), and altho they generally sit there with their heads sticking our of their lairs waiting for a snack (ours didn't care for barnacles, BTW). However, they're hilarious when they first try to establish who gets to live in what hole, and of course, at feeding time...they're like "whack-a-moles".

    Iheartcoral,

It sort of depends on what you like...personally, I try to go off the beaten path, and tend to not keep the "dime a dozen" clownfishes, firefishes, etc.

Your 38 isn't a huge tank, but there are still lots of possibilities. Choosing someone's fish is kinda like choosing their clothes...pretty tuff.

What is your level of expertise in the hobby? This will help a lot.

Do you want "water column" fishes or bottom-huggers like your mandy?

    Which corals are you keeping?

    Motile Inverts?

The answers to these questions will definitely help folks point you down the right road.

If you can find a cockatoo waspfish (Ablabys taenianotus), that would be a good addition. Altho a small pred, they have about the best personality of most fishes I've kept, and anyone who has kept one will likely agree. Redfins are a bit more showy, but I prefer the cockatoo for 'tude.
