aquasystem don't look like it would have a good place for skimmer. When you get the all in one stuff usualy it is not very good quality. But I have never delt with this brand. It also sounds like you have a ton of questions. It is hard to answer them all and I would suggest picking up a good book cause there is a ton of knowledge to be had.

Have you ever seen a tank without a skimmer? While there is no pumps running?.
Notice a film on the water surface?
The Protein Skimmer will remove this harmful protein from your water making it safe for fish.
You stated you was going to try corals also
I wouldnt recommend it until you had a skimmer and a good book.
Im sure you got a local library man.
Go see if they have any books you can borrow
    and read up on.
Like dude said there is ALOT of info your gonna need to embed in your head. lol.
Hell im still learning ALOT of info myself

I have a Clear-For-Life all in one system and I wouldn't recommend it. It's better to have the extra space for useable area for the fish/reef. It's much easier to have a sump or a fuge below the tank, it's much more versatile in the long run. As far as the skimmers that these all-in-one systems have, they are worthless. It was the biggest waste of $100 I spent, they are even worse than the Seaclones. :p
