No worries;) Hope it gets better soon.

Yeah, I think it would be bad to add the fish right after the rock - the tank would not have enough biological filtration yet. Even if you add rock from the 29g (fully cured) to the 10g, there may still be some die-off, so I would still wait 1-2 weeks (though not 4-6 weeks that I would wait if you just use base rock).

i have a 29 gal and a 10 gal. sorry. idk how hardy these guys are yet. the tank has been setup since october so i thought it would be ok. i have gracilaria, chaeto, and 14 mangroves in the 10g. i put flake in once a week just so the mangroves and gracilaria, and chaeto wont die. sorry for the confusion.

i planned on going this weeked to get him. i guess he could go in the 29 if hes not too big but i would rather only have to move him into the other tank once. any ideas on this? i could move all the mangroves over to the 29 also just to help while he is in there. i dont really want to though. idk what do you all think i should do. i will go look up how hardy they are right now.

This is what I would do to try and be safe and minimize any cycles. I would take some rock out of your 29 and move it to the 10g, maybe 5 pounds at most, then I would add a little more base rock to the 10g and then replace the 5lbs in the 29g.
Also do a thorough bleach bath of all of the rock and then rinse/wash the rock off with RO and let it thoroughly dry out for a few days. That should help remove any organic matter that might be dried/encrusted onto/into the dry rock which might cause a cycle when it gets into the tank.

I think if you have the option to get a big chunk of rock for the 10g you will have a better chance of having it form more significant low oxygen zones for denitrifying bacteria I believe, which could help with nutrient levels in the long run. No guarantees of course.

ok to clear everything up, the ten gallon has been setup for almost 4 months. it has i piece of rock in it with 18 lbs of sand, it also has 14 mangroves, chaeto, and gracilaria. i am so sorry that i got you all confused. will it be ok for a leaf fish? if not then can i add 5 lbs of live rock from my 29 to the tank? i am sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for helping me. sorry again.

i think my test kits are bad. but the lfs tests with test strips so i know those arent much better. (not the sames lfs that has the leaf fish) im not gonna get the leaf fish yet. im gonna get rock and then let it sit until i get a test kit that works.

I just realized this is the $400 dollar fish right? I would take it very slow, wouldn't risk losing that fish.
