hey, i got a good deal on two mystery frags but i don't know what they are or what they need.

i guessing the first is some sort of favia or something. it's super iridescent under the actinics. i havent noticed any sweeper tentacles at night if that helps

the second i think may be some kind of closed brain or pineapple coral, it has crazy long sweepers at night (two inches easy).

if i can get a little help with the id's then i can find a better permanent place for them in the tank. thanks for looking!

They are both Favites. See how the septum is merged and the corallites are sharing the same septum wall? If it were Favia, there would be a distinct separation on the septum.

Great additions, do you mind me asking how much were they?

well, i guess we need to take a few factors into consideration before you would call this a good deal: 1) they are each about 3 x 2 inches, which is enormous compared to what else they had in the tank. 2) i got the pair for 35 bucks, which is also unbelievable for this store. i've seen 50 bucks for a green mushroom rock.... 3) part of my anniversary present from my wife (one year) was a gift card so they were free! best. wife. ever!

now back to business. being favites, as inwall so expertly deduced, i'm assuming they will be fairly tolerant to where i place them concerning light and flow (however i need to take into account these nasty sweeper tentacles). but i need suggestions about how to best position these for the long-term. do they plate out or do they encrust on the existant rock? what are some of your guys' experiences?
