Need some input.

So one of my friends is giving me is 20 gal saltwater setup due to not having time to care for it. I was planning on putting it in my 29 gal. and dont really have a good light for it. I have a 400 watt metal halide that I used on my old saltwater and was woundering if there was any chance i could use that just mount it high into a canopy with lots of fans?? Or would this be way to much light??

 

Uhh yeah... 400watt MH over a 29 gal... I am goin got say to much light.. I kinda think a 150 is pushing it but who knows there mite be someone here that has done it...

its good you asked .. You never know sombody may know a way to.. lets say not fry your tank using the 400 watt... lol

I know they make under a 100watt Mh bulb but if cost is a issue then well... Good ole fashion PC's or T5's if they are made that small..

Was thinking of doing a retro fit of 4 t5s but would i be limited on coral such as maybe a clam?

 

I Know of people that have 100gal +tanks and all they runn is T5's and have SPS and LPS and clams... So i dont think you will have a problem..

 

Well still looking for more opinions on this. What would be the sideffects of using my 400w mh if I even mounted it 12 or 18 inches above the tank ??

I don't quite understand, your going to put the contents of the 20 into your existing 29? Or using the 29 to put the contents in, as in a sort of upgrade?
