OK I have everything to start my reef tank now but a stand. I have a 54 gal corner with overflow. I want to build my own stand to accommodate my equipment. So I was hoping for some ideas and pictures for some corner tank stands. I was looking to possibly doing a five sided design.

How's this: 165 Gallon flat back hex (acrylic) Built the stand and hood in 2 week ends :) All solid hard woods (cept the pine) 1.5" Butcher Block Oak top and bottom, 1" Ponderosa pine uprights, solid red oak framing- the center divider you see is removable so you can access the sump system, all tonge and grove, gorillia glue, dowled, and then screwed, Acrylic semi-gloss black and red oak finish, sealed inside and out with 6 coats of poly, then the interior was resealed again using water proofer- it holds about 15 gallons- opps again. ;D BTW, when the stand was done- it weighed in @ 220 lbs. I water curved all the trim using steam and a heat gun.

But dont make this mistake ;D Tank was going to be a divider- Opps. This is the rebuild of that particular wall. Other half was a tad pissey for a week or so.

Sump is in, short runs, and very simple- best to keep it simple

    Ah finally, critters!

Thanks that is what I need. The butcher block top is a good idea I could cut the angles really simply, plus the wood grain will look nice.

Yea check out Menards they have it in std. lengths up to 8 foot in store, or you can custom order longer lengths. The stuff is super strong, and beautiful when done. But be warned, it is oak- 1.5 inch thick oak, you'll need good cutting tools- I about burned up my router several times- a Bosh 2 h.p., and better have a good saw on hand. One other thing I wish I would have done- bigger cut out for power input and cords on both sides rather then one side, and a larger drain/return opening in the base- it was a pain trying to tighten every thing so while so confined- other wise I love it. Make sure to use SS hardware- money well spent.

I don't have a corner but I feel adding a molding to the tank canopy/stand can really make it look much nicer. I'd look at them at your home depot or lowes.

There was a suggestion of building the inside frame and top and ordering some cabinet fronts to skin it with. The tank is going to be in the dinning room. In our house it is kinda the central meeting place. I want everyone to see the tank as a part of the house and that it has always been there. It is hard to figure out how to make a reef tank look at home in an 100 year old house.

Na not at all- you can do this!! I am setting up a system up for my lil' bro's house- for the fronts I used some that I found at a salvage store and simply refinished them-they came off an old GF clock, I am doing his 90 gallon using a Crown molding top and base- so they match his home - similar to my set up just more antique looking. His sump is going to be in the basement tho. we are going to use an old register vent for our water and return run. He is a musician, so he needs a very quite area in his music room.
