O.k. fellow reefers, I need some suggestions for a new return pump. I currently have a Mag 7. It has been quite reliable, a little bit of a hum but nothing annoying. I got it because it was touted as reliable as far as its' re-start capabilities. The Rio I had would not re-start all the time and I got fed up with having to bang it, spin the impeller etc. Short power outages when no one is home was a great concern if the pump would not always re-start. Now, the Mag 7 has started to show those tendencies. It is a few years old and I have cleaned it. I would like a suggestion for a similar (700 gph) pump but one that is reliable as far as re-start and quiet. Thank you in advance.

Have you soaked the pump in white vinegar to remove calcium build-up? How long have you had it?

I think most pumps have the restart problems with flash outages because they are attempting to pump against flow instead of no flow.

Thanks for the response, I guess no one in this forum likes their pumps::)
The 9.5 is a bit too much pump but thanks.

I have been running the Rio HF20 for over a yr with no issues. It is quiet and has never failed to start. I am happy with it so far and will replace it with another one when it is time.

Ocean Runner 2500 or Eheim 1260. Both are very good, quiet reliable pumps with low heat production and very efficient.

I agree, but I've only had the 1260 for 6 months, so far so good. later

I have the rio hf32 and have had no issues. I heard about restate problems before I bought it, but from what I read, the hyper flo series is supposed to have corrected that
