We installed a chiller & now our return flow is pretty low. We have a Rio Hyperflow rated at 1350 gph with 4' head pressure, but are not getting anything near that rate. If I had to guess, it would be more like 300-350 gph. With the 2 Koralias, that gives us about a 26x turnover rate.

I'm concerned because we are getting an outbreak of red cyano & I was told to increase flow. I'm also concerned about how effective our wet/dry is with a diminished rate.

Would it be a good idea to get an external pump for the chiller? That would give us about a 37x turnover rate if we didn't have to run it through the chiller.

    Thanks for your help!

You can do this two ways.....buy a massive pump that uses more electricity and introduces more heat thereby making the chiller run more and use more electricity, or you can buy a small pump to make a closed loop with the chiller and the sump.

We don't have room in the sump for another pump.

In that case, if you want you can add an external pump for the chiller.

Any recommendations on an external pump?
