    Are you buying one unit or two? If you're buying 2 (24"), then you could go with the 60* for better performance at the sand level (just be careful with bleaching at the top of the rock work), but it's not necessary (I have default optics). If you go with 1 light unit (32"), you will will want better spread to the periphery of the tank, so if you went with anything but default optics, you run the risk of focusing the light too much and creating shadows on the periphery.

    I am going with 2 24" and I am going to have them default.

    I have one over my 24" tank (with defaults) with no issues at all. You should be fine with 2 over a 48"(?) tank (with defaults).

    Wouldnt the 32" be more convenient since it practically does everything it self? i could just have the softies on the outskirts and the SPS and clams in the center.
