I was lucky enough to pick a 72"x18" cabinet today for a 100 bucks but it has that light oak finish can someone assist me on how to paint it black.

if its got a varathane type finish, use mineral spirits to strip it off. easier to wipe offr than do all that extra sanding. then a light sand , more like a scuff , for the paint to adhere.

+1 To what Divott said. Strip the finish, sand the wood to create something for the paint to stick to, and then paint away!
