Just thought I'd share this as it works well for me. If you have a large tank which requires water changes of 5,10, 15, 20+ gallons, try heating up the water in the 5 gallon containers by placing them in the sink or bathtub and filling it up with some hot water. The hot water surrounds the 5 gallon containers and quickly brings the water temperature in the containers up. I would suggest investing in a digital thermometer as it makes taking temperature readings much quicker. **Be sure to not let any of the water in the sink or bathtub contact the water in the containers to avoid contamination.

I keep an old Mag 7 and Mag 9.5 pump around for heating water in the winter months. They run pretty warm and will raise the temp in my 30 gallon trash can within a few hours plus circulate the salt and aerate the water at the same time.

Same here - the mags do run a lil warm so they do half the work of the warming of the 55 gallon drum the other half is accomplished by a 100 W heater.

But if I ever find myself in an emergency situation - this is surely what I would do!!!
