I have a green pincushion urchin who is really very cool looking and everytime I have a guest over they ask what the urchin is right away. The only problem is that its a bulldozer and knocks over pretty much everything. I wake up and the light comes on and there is at least one coral face down in the sand every time.

I'm thinking about trading in the urchin, but then I thought of frag glue. How reasonable/practical would it be for me to go in and start gluing things all over the place in my tank? I've never used the stuff before and putting glue in my fish tank seems kinda counter-intuitive. How much is too much? I'm assuming that I run the risk of not being able to move coral in the future.

    Thanks for any input,
    Doratus

I glue everything, my urchins and mongo sized crabs are bulldozers as well. Why settle? you put what you want in your tank - no need to ever settle, I suggest gluing and enjoying.

If you are going to do it underwater, I would use epoxy
Boston Aqua Farms Colored Reef Epoxy Putty 2oz
it will adhere better if applying underwater.

If you can take the rock and coral out you can glue it.

the problem I see is the fact that you are pretty much stuck with the design. But it will not hurt anything IMO. I use plain old superglu gel on my frags

I use superglue without issue. As for being stuck with the design? Isn’t that going to be case in a couple months anyway once the corals self attach?

I used epoxy once, I had to mix it together and then my hands felt nasty sticky from it. But it was great having the ability to shape the epoxy – with crazy glue you sort of think you know what portion of the rocks touch … ha !

Can I find epoxy at the LFS or is it only a special order item?

Also, let me try and clarify this.. I can use regular superglue gel underwater but it might be tricky?

This seems crazy to me because superglue literally gives off fumes... but I guess the gel is different?

    Thanks again,
    Doratus

You can use superglue in the water, I have for years now without issue. I have used it directly on the soft tissue of corals too.

Epoxy can be found in LFS – should not be a special order.

most LFS carry it. I use both, gel works great when the coral is not that big, eventually it will grow over the rock anyways. Larger pieces i use the putty or a combination of both. You can put the glue on the bottom of the coral and then place it underwater to adhere to the rock.
