ok im pretty sure i have just purchased a maxima clam (that makes me sound horrible i know) and am not sure about the lighting requirements of it. (also i know makes me sound bad.) the deal was just too good to pass up. it was 29.99. it is bright purple with blue accents. he is about 1.5 to 2 inches long. i have 150W MH lighting over my 29 gallon tank. is this sufficient? my tank parameters are good all at 0! well off to acclimate teh little guy! thanks!

That should be plenty of light for it. The one param you will need to watch closer now is your calcium.

from my readings on 3reef i believe clams this size need to be manually fed fairly often. I think it is around 3" that they can survive off light alone.

but i have never had a clam... so bump

Lighting sounds sufficient. Clams require a decent calcium/alk level too though.

i disagree. no offense. but i have read more often than not that lighting in its self will be sufficient for clams. but this is something that i will look into. thank you and K+

Adding in kalk to your ATO reservoir (if you have one) can work wonders on your calcium and alk levels. As long as your tank is not stuffed to the gills with SPS it should be more than enough to keep your clam happy.
