I think my system might be ready for an anemone. I would like to get a flower anemone AKA a rck anemone. I have a 34 gallon tank that is 1 year old. All params are stable. But, I am kind of worried I am going to make a mistake in buying a nem. I have been wanting a nem for a while, but now I think I am finally ready. Are flower nems easy? I did some research and it seems like they move around the least, but will they pick a spot directly next to a coral then sting/kill it? Or would it most likely pick a spot away from a coral?
Is there any way I can pick a spot for it?

Here is a picture of my tank to give yuo an idea of the amount of coral I have. What spot do you think the nem would pick?

Any input/info on flower nems would be great!
And the final question: Should I finally take the plunge? Why or why not?

    Thanks!

I found the Flower to be quite easy, and yes, unlike the condy, it stayed in one place once it found somewhere suitable. The difficult part for you is that you do have quite a few corals and there's no way to predict where the nem will go before it settles. Personally, I wouldn't take the risk.

How bout a nice mini maxi? Mine are easy, they dont move, and they look nice. I just acclimated them with a small pebble so they can attatch and when done i just placed the pebble where i wanted it and they havent even moved.

Is it possible it would completely [ark itself over or directly next to another coral?
Also I read something online about placing it yourself using PVC. Does anyone know about this method?

This is how most aquarium retailers seem to propagate anemones. I've seen it done with many different kinds of 'nems. I know some of our sponsors do it too.

Though i don't have a 'nem yet, so I can't say anything from experience.

Would I be able to place it on a PVC in the spot I want it, wait a week, then remove the PVC? I have a few spots in mind.

I think the reason vendors use the PVC trick is because they can just move the PVC. But once the anemone is removed from thee PVC it will still move around the tank until it is where it feels best.

Using the PVC in your tank would only be temporary unless you kept the nem with the PVC.

    Oh, understood.
How likely is it that the nem finds a spot very close to another coral? Most of my softy colonies are huge and they are also on individual rocks which the nem will not be able to find a spot on.
Which spot do you think the nem would pick?

JJ, there's really no way to tell for sure. You seem to have about an equal amount of rock with or without coral, so I'd say it's split about 50/50. But ultimately, the 'nem will sit wherever it wants. That's why it's so risky, like Mr Bill said.
