Ok, so I thought I'd share with you all an observation I have made on these fish. That is, that they are incredibly hardy and very strong, even tough to die.

So Wednesday night I was out cleaning my car. I decided not to work out and came in around 9PM. Well, to my surprise, my 3rd flame hawk decided to leap out of my tank and landed right in front of the tank on the floor. He was so near death, that I could barely see him still gasping for air. Just a tad bit of mouth movement. I tossed him back in. Within a minute or so, he started gasping for air rapidly and stood sideways for about 2-3 minutes to be exact.

Then he flipped gently, a couple of more minutes later, he swam and stood upright and stood there for a long while. After about an hour or so, he was breathing normally and his coloration was regained. A day later, hopping and eating like normal.

What an extremely strong fish. One thing I have noted is that he hasn't swam violently near the glass and attempted to leap out, maybe he's learned his lesson.

sounds like my betta incident i had the other day, although labyrinth fish tend to be resilient anyway.

glad he made it, if it happens again you may want to resort to something to cover the tank.....just to show the little guy that there is no way out! :)

    Hehe! lucky fish!!

I have had that happened with an Epaulette shark. He decided that the could push the glass over if he bumped it hard enough and go free outside the tank. To my suprise I walked to the tank and wondered what the brown thing was on the floor!?!? my silly shark had jumped out and was still slipping around on the floor, but even falling down 1.5m and landing on tiled floor, he lived for another 3years :)

Mind you, he never tried it ever again haha!

Tangster, I think that was observed by reefers. Generally, you dont want any shrimp that is smaller than him because he will shred it. :D

I had an orange toadfish that I absolutly adored. I had him housed in 29g tank along with another troublsome fish. One night I heard a crash and looked over and saw my girlfriends cat jumping off of it with the water thrashing around. I didnt think much of it at the time(that was about 9pm) The next afternoon abour 4pm, my girlfriend screamed and I came in there and she asked me what was that on the floor. Well apparently, the cat was trying to catch the other fish and the toadfish tried to eat the cats paw. haha. The cat must have thrown the toadfish out of the tank. To my surprise, the toadfish was still alive. I put him back in the tank but it was obvious his eye had problems, and I tried to feed him a couple of times and he died 3 days later :( , I still miss that fish.
