How do I get rid of it before it takes hold of my tank? I have about 8-10 little sprouts coming out. While the green color is nice I understand this is something that can overrun your tank. My ca level is up around 520 so I know that is part of the problem. Tank has ne running for 4 weeks now.

I would keep it. I have never heard of it over running a tank. It's been a while but, from what I remember, it is a very slow growing macro-algae. Could be bad in certain scenarios but not likely to happen with only 8-10 stalks in a small tank with chemistry swings looming.

+1 for Missionsix. I am pretty sure they aren't a bad algae. I have a half dozen in my tank
all on different rocks and have never had them grow over an inch. If memory serves correctly they are a calcerous algae so your high calcium probably has something to do with it. I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks for the feed back. Now I seem to have a few spots of red turf algae. Any suggestions for that?

I had a huge green algae outbreak from high nitrate source water. After eliminating the green hair algae I was left with red turf alge over everything. Here is what I did. I replaced all the cartridges in my RO/DI filter to make sure I was getting 0 TDS. I bought a new skimmer Aqua C EV 180. Added a whole bunch of snails and crabs to my clean up crew. Stay consistent with my water changes and watch water chemistry close. It kind of disappears in clumps. I also changed bulbs. I know its a pain but my tank is coming around and looks 100 times better. Good luck
