I have a sixline wrasse and have been considering a neon goby, or really any goby for that matter.

My sixline was a naughty fish that I moved from a tank where he picked on a maroon clown and royal gramma basslet (both were smaller than the sixline). He is now in a tank with a clarkii & blue hippo (both bigger) and we have no problems.

I've never had a goby, I have always read and observed that they are calm and peaceful. Do you think that my sixline will mess with a goby too much, or can they hold their own?

Neon gobies are very small and tend to sit around quite a bit. If your 6 line has shown aggressive tendencies in the past, I think they gobies would literally be sitting targets.

I have 2 neon goby's and two six lines in my 120 and they are fine. Not sure if 'm having success because of the size of the tank or not but no issues for me so far.

I have a 75gal, however that never stopped him in the past, even from attacking my maroon. I have noticed, as most of you also probably have, that fish all have different personalities, so maybe your sixlines are "nice" or the it's the tank size like you said.

Have yours ever shown signs of aggression towards any other fish?

The only two fish in my tank that they chase is a lubox Wrass and my bicolor pseudochromis. But I agree the neon does just sit there so if yours is more agressive then mine it may not be a good idea as the Neon goby will likly not hold it's own in that battle.

I had a neon and a 6 line in the same tank no problem. I also assume due to the neon being a cleaner fish that even the most aggressive fish would leave it alone because it is beneficial to them.

I have both fish and they get along with everyone. In my case, the others where picking on the 6line b/c he was new. Both are great fish to have. In time, you will get to the point that you will start choosing " working " fish rather than "pretty" fish.

Well I now prefer to choose my fish for working rather than pretty reasons. I've read a lot about neon gobys cleaning well and I have a blue hippo with a recent ich outbreak. I realize this is common with tangs and especially blue hippos, and it will go away on it's own with good nutrition, etc... I just thought since the tank has room for another inhabitant that I would consider this one. Still kind of leaning away from a goby though because of the aggressiveness of my sixline. :/

I will say I bought my neon gobys for this reason as well. (Hippo Tang Ick) they did not go after him much. I put in a cleaner wrasse and that thing did the job. they are very short lived though and the six line did try to put him in is place.. Once they worked it out they were fine.. Cleaner did the job on my hippo. He has since passed but I knew he would going in to it. Just thought the $12-$15 investment was worth saving the hippo.

I know that my blue hippo's ich will pass too, I think I'll just let it ride it's course and deal with it. I have wanted a sand sifting goby though but I probably should just stay away from goby's in general because of the sixline...
