I bought 2 of these guys for my tank, everything I read says they don't dig like the engineer goby but I swear these guys have been building mine shafts under my rock work, its funny to see their little heads pop up or carrying out a piece of rock bigger then them. I was curious if anyone else has neon's that dig? I also have a goby in there to help clean up the hair algea but instead he shapes them into balls. one day I will get a normal animal ;D

I have one who buries under a barnacle I have in the tank. He set it up as it's little home and at night sleeps in it. Every day when the lights go on, it pops out and sits on the barnacle waiting for fish to swim by and be cleaned, then if startled will dart back into its home until it gets the guts to come back out and will go right to the top of the barnacle again.

Mine barely ever touches the sand even. My rock has lots of little caves though and holes and nooks and crannies that he jumps around to.

I wonder if your rock doesn't have a lot of caves to explore/hide in if they might take to digging more?

That is weird. Are you sure you dont have a pair of Eng. Gobies or another type of digging goby? The one that I have doesnt go near the sand. He "jumps" on the fish and starts cleaning them. Luna

Ya know something luna, you may be right! I have seen some LFS's advertise small engineer gobies as a neon before and possibly purchased 2 not realizing. I also don't think 2 neon gobies would be together if not a mated pair as well.

Cooljjay, Do your fish have yellow/gold stripes or neon blue? If they are black and silverish striped, then you do have a pair of engineer gobies - cool fish but get BIG

I know I don't have one, mine just uses it's hole to dart in when startled every once in a while but is out most of the time (plus is blue striped and not even an inch long).

    Hope that helps cooljjay
