I can't seem to get to it from a different network. It works at home but not when I try somewhere else. Did the ddns thing, configured all the ips, and port forwarding. Still won't let me access it somewhere else. Has anyone else had this problem, I followed the instruction book to a T. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Good reefing to ya...

Can you browse your ddns hostname while inside your network and get the correct response?

Meaning from at home, on your network can you browse:
http://yourdyndns.com:xxxx and get the expected result?

Just trying to figure out if the address only works inside your network and not outside or if it doesn't work at all.

Are you sure your dyndns account is resolving to the correct ip provided by your ISP? Might be worth a refresh.

Some routers have a ddns setting that you can hook up to your ddns account so when your ISP changes your ip address, it automatically updates the ddns account to keep forwarding correctly. Do you have this setup?

Is the port forwarding setup correctly on your router and are you browsing to the correct address?

For my router, I opened up a specific "external port" and having it forward to a specific "internal port" on a known static ip. So for instance when I browse to:

    http://mydyndnsacct.com:2000

2000 would setup as the external port for my router and I would need to include the ":2000" at the end of the address to browse on that port and have the router do its forwarding. Are you including that part in your address that you're browsing to, or is it just default port 80?

The only other thing I can think of is you might be forwarding to the wrong ip address inside your LAN. So your ddns host might be redirecting to your network, but once there, are you sure you are forwarding to the correct ip address of your controller? Again, I think most routers now have the option to assign a static ip address to devices connected to the LAN. I like to reserve the static ip 192.168.1.110 just for my controller. So no matter what, anytime it connects to the router, it will be handed the same address without fail. Without setting that static address, my router would tend to hand the controller a different ip, depending on what's connected to the network at that time. It could be that you have the port forward rule setup to an ip address that's no longer being used because your router gave your controller a different one. Just something to check..

If u go on the reedcentral forum. There is a forum for neptune they would be able to provide more help.

    A few things to check

There are some tools online to check and see if your port is really open. Even I'd you onward the port sometimes the router did not set it up correct.

Sounds like your router isn't setup for port forwarding and the firewall is blocking it. Or your internet provider is blocking access to the port you chose. A lot os ISPs block access to port 80,443,25. So you might try choosing a different one (I use 8081)

I'm sorry it so long to respond, but I have done everything you mentioned. My router does have the ddns updater program, but I still can't access by apex out of my network, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Could my isp be blocking incoming requests? I'm thinking maybe I've got the wrong external, I did the whatsmyip thing, that's the one I'm using with the port of the apex being forwarded. I appreciate all your answers.

In this case I'd recommend you visit Reef Central and visit their Neptune forum in the Vendors section. The name of the individual escapes me, (I want to say it's Ken) but he almost lives on that forum, and he was instrumental (no pun intended! :) ) in writing the users manual for the APEX Aquacontroller. He's helped me more than once, and has yet to be wrong, or unable to solve a problem for me.

    Good luck!
