    We did the same sort of DIY lid for our open 75 only we used the plastic window frame kits for the frame of the netting and doubled the netting a time or two to cut down on the size of the holes.

    One word of caution, when we did ours, we had a small, and I mean very small gap in between the frame and the tank and wouldnt you know it.....our diamond goby found that space. He was extremely suicidal and a very good shot!

    Looks like nice though. Gives it a much more complete look than the eggcrate!

    Great idea.
    You can varnish your wood dowels & to bend you can soak them and add weights to the ends. I think plastic rods would be easier and they come in square shapes too.

    Yes you can heat plastic & bend it.. I'd use a heat gun...I have one for using with embossing powder in stamping (so you can get one cheap @ a craft store). I've used it many times to heat plastic or to shrink tubing on electrical wiring.
