Never thought I would be disappoint by this

Mine does not smell bad or may be I have not tried to smell it or not given any thought towards it. I do not think the problem with your nose as suggested by many here.

 

90% of the time my skimmate doesn't have an offensive smell but the skimmate is always a dark brown color. Perhaps it's related to the varying amount of bacteria consuming waste within the tank at a given time?

 

Well the skim is still dark brown even black at times, and i dont go poking my nose in it but when i do pour it out of the jug normally there is a nice after effect lol leaves the bathroom with a nice odor you know lol :

The original thread started a while back and now i noticed the smell varies from time to time but im glad the sealed jug doesnt make my house smell around the tank area. Now on another note the vanishing diamond goby left my tank with a bad fish odor that smelled for a week in my living room.

 

sounds like it's still doing its job. I don't notice that mine has a really bad odor either.
