I bet we could cobble together an inner sleeve for a skimmer cup and coat the sleeve to avoid permenant modification of the cup.

yeah thats why i would get another cup for the experiment. Honestly I am only going to hit the neck of the skimmer, but a translucent coating will be more than ok. It not opaque white from what I've seen.

wouldnt hitting the neck of the skimmer cause the head to not build correctly? doesnt the neck of the skimmer hold the foam in place to help it rise? To my understanding it would be like trying to climb a wall covered in grease.

I'm with you thinking of the benefits of this product. Would love to see it able to be used in skimmers.

Soooo...for this to work, I think you'd need to get a new cup, you know, to experiment with. These ideas just come to me....like a gift. Your welcome.

LOL Andy. Ok I called the Coralvue offices and bit the bullet on a new skimmer cup... $50 plus shipping, but its about time I start being an innovator in this hobby and not such a leach lol. Also picked up 4 giant eco-gorgs from my LFS... what, I'm a reefer not a saint!

Tagged and following. that stuff is incredible. im getting some this weekend at Home Depot. Hope my podunk tiny store carries it.

as for coating, I would think this would make the skimmer crazy efficient as there would not be any buildup in the neck.

I am suspecting that it will cause the skimmer to not skim, such as when new and has no slime coat.
