I am very interested but skeptical. This stuff is not a waterproofer but a water repellent.Big difference.;)

true. it si a repellent. it is a nano technology. My only fear of it would be it dissolving or breaking down into the water. I may clear my workbench off and coat it with this stuff too. no more oil stains.

It really depends on what you mean by the terms. I was a tanner for about a decade and in terms of leather, I don't think the destinction you're looking for exists. Its true making something water repellant is one method of waterproofing it, but if a surface is 100% water repellant, its 100% waterproof. They're not very scientific terms however, so how you define them matters to what you mean (a waterproof mesh could be made up of materials that are totally waterproof, but if I pour water on it, it falls through).

As far as this stuff goes, I'm inclined to try it. There are essentially several ways to waterproof something. While some methods require reactive materials, this stuff seems fairly inert once dried. If thats the case, unless something in our tanks breaks it down again, its probably fairly harmless.

Anyone wanna run an experiment with a damsel and a nano?

man, im so excited about this stuff, im about to coat my SRO3000 with it. plus, if it did break down in the skimmer neck, wouldnt it then be removed by the upward foam push?

maybe... that was my though. My plan was just to coat the neck inside the skimmer cup.

    in readinghte paperwork:
Can Rust-Oleum NeverWet be used on surfaces that are continuously submerged?

Rust-Oleum NeverWet relies on a layer of air to form the superhydrophobic coating on the
surface of the object. For this reason the product is not recommended for surfaces
continuously submerged in water or liquid.

Can NeverWet be applied to glass?

Yes, but the glass will no longer be transparent. NeverWet dries to a Flat Frosted Clear
color, therefore, it should never be applied to windshields or automobile windows.
NeverWet will work on any glass that you want to have superhydrophobic properties, but
    don’t need to see through.

Can NeverWet be used on electronics?

No, NeverWet should not be used on electronics.

Interesting. I think there is at least a good chance however that a foam column leaves enough air for the product to maintain its air layer.
