I have my old 10gal. tank i am going to use it as a sump under my current 55 gallon reef tank. I would like to make a small refugium but am not sure where it should be placed, but i have two ideas. One is to have it in the middle just as part of the sump, or i have done some reading a some say the water flow should be slower in the refugium so i got the idea to put it on the right side. On the right side i would split the pump back to the tank so some of the water goes to the refugium and it could over flow back in to the sump. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD HELP

will your skimmer fit in the sump?

do to space you may need to use a macro that tolerates high flow like chaetomorpha

I have a hang on skimmer that will go on the back. And if i do it to the right i think i could control the rate of flow to the refugium with a ball valve.

well that definitely eliminates some of the problems, i dont see any reason you can do if you partition the tank in half, and split the overflow with a valve
