SPS bulbs are horrible. Just visit sanjay joshi's website Manhattan Reefs - Sanjay's Lighting Guide and see for yourself. The 400 se 14k sps bulb only produces 68 ppfd which is another measurment for the amount of light reaching the corals. The only bulb to produce lower than this is the sps 20,000k. Go Figure. Just as a reference, the iwasaki 175 se 15000k produces 71 ppfd. This is more than a 400 watt light.

One man's trash is another man's treasure I suppose. Anybody who has used these bulbs that we know loves them and so do Tangster and I. Sanjay isn't going to convince me otherwise. :)

Possibly but if you can get good growth with this bulb, just think what you could do with a good one. I just think it's sad they don't have to put the bulbs actual light output on the packaging. Yep it's 400 watts or 250 watts but there are 175 watters and 150 watters that smoke these.

We like them more for the way they color up corals rather than the way they grow them. I'm not sure what Tangster uses at the shop for growth but he puts the corals under the sps to color up before they're sold or put in a client's tank.

Can someone post some tank pics with these bulbs? All the ones posted are too old or deleted.
