So I've decided to go with a Cichlids tank :) im going to try and find a reputable site where i can get the 3-5grain sand i think was rec. that i read about mixed in with some rock....i really appreciate everyones help ill be updating the tank build just need to find a few type of cichlids to dump in the 150g tank :) and i have a kewl idea brewing in my head for the rock lay out as i need tons of hiding spots for them im going to make a crazy contraption out of small pvc pipe drill holes in the pipe this way i can get water flow throw the pvc contraption then stack rocks on top and around it :) along with some powerheads on each end of the tank to have even flow around the tank :)

Just a silly thought....if your Dad has been a hobbyist for some time, I'd access that readily available expertise. If I had to start up a new tank, I would go with some very hardy saltwater fish. Brackish fish are cool but I've only seen a limited variety of fish. I think the cichlids are very colorful and cool as well. If you're thinking of a ray or anything like that, keep in mind that you pretty much can only keep that in the tank. You could buy several hardy, colorful saltwater fish for the price of one freshwater ray.....

^my dad works a ton especially out of town a lot, so its hard to ask him questions...while on this site i can ask and get a fast response as well as i read articles/books etc. to try and learn as much as i can...ive decided to just do a cichlid only tank though...im really excited i will be purchasing the substrate either at a lfs or online tomorrow :) along with rocks for plenty of hiding space for the cichlids...however i do ask my dad when he is around...i also have a cousin who has a beautiful 90g saltwater tank not sure if he still has it but he was or is on this site :) ...
