I have had a 55gallon tank for about 2 yrs as most of you have already read.. But {Nano} Reefer had me looking around at a few "nano's" I had in mind.. Possibly a 9-10 gallon or even less than that, but he informed me that they are rather hard to keep care of because they can lead to a disaster.. I figure I am not going to put a TON of corals in there and maybe A fish or TWO and that is it I do not want to invest too much and have it crumble right before my eyes. I enjoy the eye-candy aspect of it, is there any suggestions or tips anyone has for a person new to the "Nano lifestyle"?:p

    Hi,
Nano tanks can offer many benefits and enjoyment similar to those evident in the larger tanks. Yes, more care and monitoring will have to take place given such a small amount of surface area and water volume. These style tanks can be done and have been done successfully for years. You may want to go with a nice collection of just soft corals, especially since the "nutrient poor" water will not be as much of an issue since many forms of octocorals will feed upon the nutrients in the pelagic area of your tank.
I would just have a couple small fish, few inverts and of course some live sand and rock. Very limited feeding will be crucial in reducing the elevated level of phosphates, silicates and nitrates that can cause a spike in parameter issues and algae blooms!
Good Luck and take some pictures when you get everything going!
