    ouch..$$...

i actually had a local tank maintenance guy (cleans my neighbors DT) tell me to use tap water from the hose, add AmQuel and a dozen shrimp from the grocery store. He said that will spike the ammonia and start my cycle up fast. Is he crazy?

I may have missed it if someone else said it, but you generally do NOT want two returns. Whichever one is running faster will always be running dry making noise and bubbles. The exception is if you run one or both on autoshut off with float switches. There is more failure risk if you do that than having on reliable pump.

Is the whole tank tempered or just the bottom?

Dont use tap water. Use the rodi and take ur time. I have used shrimp to start a cycle but you only need one fatty.

by TWO RETURNS, you mean two pumps returning water back to the DT or two Overflows pulling water from the DT?

    The whole tank is tempered.

I thought so but if there was trick out there that would help me, I'm all ears.

Your build is looking really great! Do you plan on covering the shelving unit? Also, what did you use to seal the pipes connecting your sumps together?

The cabinet will be finished with Birch, painted white to match the trim. I plan on doing two large doors with piano hinges.
pipes are glued with Oatley - Rain R Shine Medium Blue PVC Cement and then also sealed with GE waterproof silicone.

Today I'm picking up a large RODI unit i found on Craigslist this weekend. Plan on putting together a water station in the garage with 2 30g barrels. 1 fresh RODI and the other Salt+RODI ready. I will run a small line through the wall from the fresh to my sump for ATO.

    Looking good my friend!

Hey, those 'intank overflows look familar sort of'!

I'd wrap/zip tie/etc. a vinyl gutterguard around the top like I did so the water flows over the top and more will flow than the holes you have drilled.
But if it's working good for you, it's a start.

    Looks good
