I've decided to put down my jury rigged frankensump and do it right this time.

Nothing radical about the design. Sock and skimmer (skimmer and overflow effluent with go into sock) in the far left 11 inches with a 15 inch high bulkhead, return pump center 8 inch compartment, fuge far right 11 inch compartment with a 17 inch bulkhead.

I decided to keep and mod my old skimmer, and you can see I made pvc platform with threaded legs to get the height just right.

With this setup I can have maximum volume of water with enough head room for power failures.

The bulkheads will get siliconed in tomorrow and we should be operational by thursday evening.

Nothing will be drilled or permanent, so I'll be able to adjust if I'm not happy.

I picked up the bulkheads today and 17 inches was just too tall for a 18inch inch high tank. So I took off 2 inches which creates two almost evenly sized compartments on each side of the sump.

According to my calculations the sock and skimmer will have around 8.4 gallons, fuge 8.1 gallons, and the return section 6.7 gallons!!!! No more daily top offs.

Don't worry I removed those heavy bottles.

I did the same thing with my sump and stand, but I was able to shore up and temporarily remove the center brace of the stand for my 75. I don't know if you can do this on you stand somehow.

Thinking about removing a lot of water from the DT, cutting out a piece from the back and then glueing it back in.

:bigcry:Had to breath deep and relax. I seriously rained on my on parade today, was so psyched to put it in.:bigcry:

Old sump and ghetto fuge are back in place, and I'm $100 wiser.

Sadly I did the same thing a few months back. I had a 30L I spend a good deal of time on making a sump to find out it was about 4" too long to fit under the stand. After picking up a 29G and a new sheet of acrylic I was able to make one and it fit nicely. Large waste of money due to my failure to plan ahead...
