getting a new 40-55 gallon and looking for recommended equipment. I have a 2 year 29g and i do not know about sumps and stuff. wondering if i could just use a hang on protein skimmer instead. And need to know recommended lighting for an acro tank. it is going to be a 40 or 55 long so it will be shallow. looking for good deals because trying to make it as cheap as possible:-/

i'd read up on a sump! Really basic, and prob alot cheaper that a HOB refugium! plus that will keep alot of equipment out of your DT! wish i had done that!
led's are more money up front but it saves a ton of electric and bulb costs each year! Prob at least $125 just for the bulbs every 9 months!
you can prob get a 48 led set up as a DIY done for under $400 or so depending on what you get!
There are alot of good skimmers out there for $120-175! people on here swear by reef octopus! I had a Coralife super skimmer and liked everything besides how ugly it was in the tank!

I'd look up a few sump builds on here before you decide against it! It will help a lot in maintenace and health of your reef!
