OK everyone, I am geeting ready to start putting togeother my 55, correct me if i'm wrong, but I should be able to put the dead sand and dead rock and the LS and LR, cured or not, I have to seed everything in all at one time. No fish or coral and it will cycle on its own. I know it will take longer doing it this way, true? but I will get to watch my tank develope and grow. No lights or skimming, just water movement. Does sound like a plan?? Thanks

That is exactly what I did on my first tank. Just clean some of the dead junk off the rock before placing it in the tank and possibly rinse the sand. Make sure you have plenty of flow and everything should work great for you.

no lights or skimming??? what problems would it cause if i did run lights and skimmer? when i first set my 55 up, i ran lights like normal, but didn't add a skimmer until a month or so later... by the way, i've had to start mine completely over, so i'm back to square one... the good news is that i have all my equipment still... i just need to clean it all and get rid of the salt creep to make it all purty-fied again

wait, i just realized how stupid my question was.... it should have been something like "if i cycle/establish my aquarium without lights and/or skimmer, how will it be beneficial from using a light cycle?" granted, the lights i used at that time were plain-jane flourescent lamps... whatever comes with the wal-mart aquarium...
