Setting up a new 75g reef tank with refugium. Trying to decide on a canopy with retrofit kit or premade open lighting hood. Planning on clams, sps, etc.

Aqualight pro with 2x 150 HQI 10K and 2x 96 watt PC for $650 seems like a great idea, but cannot change it ever and PCs dont traverse the whole length. A premade canopy would be $$$, or I could make one, but I'm not the most gifted woodworker.

and the a retrofit to boot if so 2x 250w HQI with 2x 110 VHO?

Anyone know conversion of T5 wattage requirement to standard watts? Or inexpensive place to help out with this?

Can you suspend pendants above the tank? If so I would consider two pendants such as the Aqua Medic Ocean Light or something simliar. You could get two of them with 250 watt HQI 20K bulbs for less money than the Aqualight and have a higher quaility fixture also. That or i would consider a canopy...if you did the canopy you could do the retofits mounted in it or could mount the pendants in the canopy. You could get a dual 250watt mogul retrofit for under 400 from say Hamilton or PFO and once again have higher quality componets in my opinion.
