Woohoo I did it !!!!!! Now my water level is just flowing over where my corner drilled compartment is on my tank. There's about an inch to go to fill my tank. Do I tweak this by adding the water to my sump or the tank? Sorry if this sounds stupid but it's been a very long day and no leaks as of yet and if my tank overflows at this point I may snap!

Tank is up and sump is running. Return pump is buried under a five gallon bucket of bio balls. Hoses look like they're next to each other but they're on opposite sides of the tank. Protein skimmer is next on the list.

Woke up to this mess in my family room.. If I ever start another "Tank Upgrade" I'll have enough money to PAY someone else to do it!

You should be lucky you did it with a new tank! Moving a very established tank with all kinds of fish and coral is a whole other experience :)

    Did your tank overflow?

Don't be discouraged it's all part of the learning experience. You can get 55 gallon in there for a sump if you want to. Since you have the Rubbermaid bin use that for now. That way you can plan your sump once you get your skimmer and other supplies. Just make sure the pump is covered with water then turn the power off to make sure there is not too much water in the system.

You could even put a piece of plywood under the stand and paint it with that rubber paint to keep it from hitting the floor in the future. Then you can shop vac all the water if it ever overflowed. NO ELECTRICAL SITTING ON THE FLOOR THOUGH.

Just think everything through and think of all the worse case scenarios so you can try and avoid them. Then it will all fall in place. Take your time don't let the excitement rush you through the process.

That's why I did this and also picked a different location for the new tank! Once my water cycles I'll move over the fish from my 55gal.

Rolo: No overflow, those are just some of the buckets I used to get the ro water from my LFS to my house. The water level in my sump barely moves when I kill the power. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing? I must say it sucks when I'm the only one of my friends with a salt water aquarium. This place, google, and youtube are my life support systems!

Same here actually. I am not friends with anyone local with SW tanks. The bonus is everyone that comes to your house will think your tank is amazing even if all you see are the negatives :)
