Well the hubby picked up a new leather for the 10g.

The store had it labeled as a fancy leather(super helpful:confused:)

I think it may be a carnation. Super gorgeous, has thistle like feel to it.

Anyone have any tips on feeding it if it indeed is a carnation

Yup unfortunately. They are not photosynthetic they require low lighting and multiple feedings of algal plankton a day. Expert only. You have a wonderful resource here I strongly suggest researching before you buy.

Carnation corals are definitely one of the harder Nonphotosynthetics to keep. Super strong flow definitely eases care, but not by much. They require almost constant feeding.

Gifts are nice but I usually tell people if they want to surprise me, a gift card/certificates would be best so as to avoid any situations such as this.

I know very little about these Carnations or Cabbage corals, except they are beautiful and I would not have time for the up keep, I've been eye balling one at my local
Store. When I spoke to him he mentioned that he keeps it in a smaller tank with nothing close such as large rocks as when they swell at night they can become top heavy and bend causing damage to the stem. I do know they need feeds at least twice a day and uses Combo Vitals. He also does more frequent water changes in that tank due to the increased feelings.

That's my two cents! Good luck!

In the wild they usually grow downward not upright.

As much as I love the coral and its beauty and i could handle the dedication involved, I know that being in a 10g reef isn't the best option for its survival. Not only are the chances of survival low but the nutrient levels in a 10g will be nuts to keep up with.
I have a friend who runs a store, I will be trading the coral in for something else.

First impulse buy and never again.

Thanks for all the info and support
