    They are pretty but they don't much care what they knock over, or eat, etc.

    urchin looks to be of the Echinometra mathaei variety. Otherwise known as the Hawaiian rock boring sea urchin (or pastel sea urchin). One of the most common varieties of sea urchins in Hawaii. Unfortunately, these urchins don't pay as much attention to algae like other urchins do... :( bummer.

    Hmmm.... Does anybody know if this urchin prefers to eat something else then? It was going to town on the algae at the LFS

    oh they'll still eat algae I'm sure- they're just known not to be as voracious of an algae eater as some of our other well known urchins. If im correct, you may find your urchin munching on plenty of corraline in addition to whatever small(er) amounts of filamentous algae it decides to eat.
