ive had a problem for a while with thick red slime algae so i increased the frequency of water changes and picked up a brs dual reactor and have been changing out the carbon/gfo every week....the red slime has started to recede however now green hair algae has started popping up recently in its place....any ideas on whats going on?

also to note i changed out my bulbs on my tank about 3 weeks ago as well

what are you current parameters? You have an issue somewhere with your levels...

My nitrates are a little high I know and some residual phosphates still from when I started up the tank....I'm assuming its leaching off the rocks but my issue is why is one algae receding and another growing in its place and growing quicker then the red slime was....plus I reduced feeding and reduced the amount of time the lights are on too and increased water changes plus the addition of the reactors

It seems to me that you need to find the underlying source of your issue. There are many potential sources of nitrates that you should look for as well as phosphates. First i would start with your water, making sure that you are using RO/DI and that you measure the TDS with meter. Going from there i would look to areas of low flow were detrius can build up and cause problems both in the tank, sump and filtration systems. Keep in mind that reactors fix the symptom and not the problem. It is only when the problem is identified and cannot be entirely corrected that i would consider adding a reactor. This is an issue that we have all dealt with in some form or another. It can be frustrating for sure but also rewarding when we figure it out. Keep us posted on what you find and what you learn!!

water source is RO/DI....there isnt an area of low flow...theres an mp10, mp40, and tunze (forget the model) on a 55

the problem was the tank was started off using tap water a year and a half prior with LR from another persons tank so I have fought phosphates down since then to under 2ppm, tank is a little heavy stocked so nitrates are at like 20-25...its a softy tank so nitrates dont have to be 0 i know it could have been lower but never has been a necessity and up until 6 months ago when the red slime got bad and i took steps to bring them down to about 10-15 by increasing water changes and adding some mangroves where it stopped increasing and stayed the same so then i lowered feedings and hours of lighting and it slowly started going down then i added the reactor where it started really peeling back but hair algae started grow in its place rapidly
