Last month I went on a mission to rid the tank of the hermits.

I have had to order snails and such from reefcleaners 3 times in the last 8 months.

I've never had algae issues probably from good water conditions and a very strong cuc

Recently started getting some gha, upped water changes added gfo, cut lights back a bit, it's starting to turn a brownish color but since I ditched the hermits there isn't really anything to pull it off the rocks!

I have every type of snail reef cleaners carries along with mexican turbos, a few fuzzy chitons, 2 pincushion urchins

Is there another cuc member that would do what hermits do minus eating all my snails!

Emerald and Sally Lightfoot crabs are said to be good for eradicating GHA; just keep an eye on them and make sure they stay well fed.

im surprised the mex turbos are not taking care of it. mine did an awesome job getting rid of GHA..are they getting food from another source? nori or seaweed sheets? i didnt use nori when i had GHA because i didnt get my tang til after it was gone, so if they are getting fed from somewhere else that may be why they are not eating the algae? If this isnt the case then maybe you just have some stubborn snails lol!

can i ask why you got rid of the crabs other then they will fight to the death with each other i've never had an issue with them, well they will try to steal food from my lps so i just feed them away from the lps and that gives the lps time to eat. in my mine the algae they eat makes them worth it, plus my grandchildren love them the most outa everything in the tanks, they try to name them ha ha

I actually think when it turned brown it was dying because it seems to have vanished.

I think with the anthias I was way over feeding

I got rid of the hermits because all they seemed to do was eat the snails

Yeah, GHA will turn brown before it dies. Makes sense to me

yep, they will eat snails if they geta chance to, my snails seem to last a year or two so i replace them yearly, i keep alot of turbos and blue legs the blue legs are more agressive i believe then red legs but, reds are harder to find and a little more money. if you haven't tried them the reds, you may like them better. i also buy the micro blue legs i think they eat better and are to small to get the snails until they get bigger.
