New Beginings With The Pico-With Pictures!

After moving everything from the pico because I wanted fish, to a 10 gallon, and then wanted one more fish, then to a 28 nano cube. I have decided to bring back the pico from the grave.

Along side with the 40 Gallon breeder build in the process I decided the pico will be sort of a prop/frag tank. So I am keeping it simple to keep cost down and use that extra money for the 40 breeder.

So after spending most the time gathering left over equipment and such I have a general layout of everything.

FTS with tap water to see where things should go.



Lovely 2 1/2 quart ATO reservoir with using the filter pump that came with the tank originally



Top Fin 20 filter for flow and houses the 25 watt Hydor heater, and temp probe, going to add eggcrate to hold the floss in there. The DIY ATO float switch ( Thanks to Melev's website). I got a piece of acrylic and heated it using a candle to make the float switch holder and super glued it in place.

Right now I have a Rio Mini Sun in place for the Boostled Par30 that is on the way. I ordered the 3 royal blue/ 1 cool white/ 1 neutral white bulb with the clamp during the Memorial Day sale. So maybe I can get a side my side image of a white led flash light and the bulb to give you guys a general idea of the color temp of the bulb.

Right now I am making the eggcrate wall for the filter floss. And then work on some little racks for coral. I think I will put in a sand bed to give a little more filtration.

While I'm still in filtration, I might cut a window on the top of the filter and use the Rio Mini to grow some chaeto. Not sure how well that will work since there isn't much space in there with the heater. The Aquaclear 50 I had was not deep enough for the heater and I didn't want it in the display.

 

Waiting for the Par30 from Boostled to get here. Looking like it will be here by Thursday at the most. Right now is just a Rio Mini so I get a general idea of how it will look ;D

Thanks! I am tempted to add more flow in the tank but all I have left is a Hydor Korila Nano 240. I'm not sure if the Top Fin 20 is going to be enough flow.

 

Very cool little setup ya got there. I'm going to be setting up a nano in the next few months, so I'm anxious to see how yours turns out! I saw you said you were thinking about a frag/prop tank.. Any idea what you're gunna add?

 

I wanted to move the red people eaters, acan, GSP, and torch from the other tank because I am giving it to my parents, but I had glued the zoas, torch, and GSP down so those are a no go.

For this I am moving the acan, since it isn't looking too good. I may try some acros, montis, small clam, get another frag of GSP, zoas of sorts. Throw an emerald crab or something of the sort in for any cyano/algae and maybe a snail or two.

 

Got a few more things done for today. Added an eggcrate wall in the filter where floss will be put and a snail guard.

It only goes down about halfway and in place by wedging it in.



Snail guard was made with some left over plastic jars I had from Design and Color. Drilled some holes in it as well to keep it from the surface agitating.



Tomorrow nights plan is to get some racks made.
