My new SPS blue life bulbs and icecap ballast are coming today.
I'm wondering if I need to move some corals lower since the new lights should be much brighter. Mid tank I have echino lava chalice, kryptonite. Top I have various acro, and monti that I can't move.
Some softies mid and high in tank...large mushroom, xenia , spaghetti.
    cheers

You should be OK. Is it just a ballast/bulb change or is the wattage changing as well? You could always run the lights on a shorter period rather than moving stuff around as well.

Sweet .. i forgot that option. Same wattage ... I've just heard even with the cheap Odyssea bulbs the difference is huge going to the ugraded ballast.

With the same wattage, you should not have to much of a problem. A shorter time should work well with just newer better bulbs. Now if you increased wattage, I would say just a shorter time period could still cause problems, they could get burnt in a pretty short time period.

One other thing you can do to decrease the light output rather than moving things, is to put some type of shade item (window screen ect) on top of the aquarium to filter out some of the light. You can start with a few layers and remove one layer at a time to increase the light slowly.
