    For macro shots you really need to use a tripod and a remote trigger to prevent the camera from shaking. If you don't have one use the timer mode on the camera.

    I've gotten my best macro shots by using a high F stop (17 or higher) which will result in a slow shutter speed (hence the need for the tripod). With a macro lens the depth of field can be as small as 1 mm or less so you need the tripod to keep the subject in focus from front to back as well. Going to a higher f stop increases your depth of field as well.
