    I hate to say this, but the clam is beyond bad shape, it's already gone. I'm with Curt on the assumption that it was ripped out of the LFS tank and had its byssal gland and threads ripped off. That clam had no chance from the get-go, nothing that you did wrong. Shame on your LFS if they did not remove it properly.
