We bought a huge colt coral yesterday at the LFS and were warned that it might not open for a day or so. Well, last night it was all balled up about the size of a small melon and now its flopped over, it looks like wilted lettuce. We've moved it up a bit, it was in the middle of the tank and now its in the top 12" and has a powerhead pointed directly at it. The guy at the LFS said when they had it, it was under the exact same lighting as ours (4 VHO T5s) but away from a high water flow source and when he moved it to right under a powerhead it opened and grew like a weed. I tried feeding reef roids this morning to the rest of the coral in the hopes that it would help it perk up a bit but otherwise not sure what to do?
All params are fine, ammonia is .25. Calcium 420, pH 8.0, everything else is 0 or where it should be.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You should not have any ammonia.

Other than that low in the tank, mod flow let it acclimate for a few days. Do not attempt to feed it until it has acclimated and is fully open.

    If your tank new ?

I agree. Also, what is your Alk? Mine always shrank when Alk got on the low end. Coral can take up to a week or so to adjust and the ammonia is shocking it. Get some Ammosorb or something similar. I hope this isn't a cycling tank.

Colt coral is weird, I had one that shrivled up for 5 days, then open for 10...And closed again for 5...I have no clue...but it always is fine.

No my tank is not new, I had a 55gal previously for 6.5 years and in August we upgraded to 120gal and used the water from the 55 to fill it.

I just did a 20% water change and tomorrow will retest.

I don't have an alk test so I can't tell you what my level is! I also readjusted the flow so its flowing over top of it, not at it. It's starting to look like it wants to open but is still flopped over.
