So I just bought my first coral and it was sold as a galaxy coral. It is drip acclimating now and will post pic once its in the tank. Question is I should start it off on the sand and slowly move it up right? Also can I freshwater dip this coral or would that cause more harm than good. Thanks for the help.

If you want to dip I would do an iodine based dip, such as lugols not fw. I've had a galaxy on the sand it's whole life and grows like crazy, but if you wanna move it up, you have the right idea. Congrats on the new piece!

Thanks for the info. You kept one on the sand? What did you have for lighting?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

If it like you where you place it, it will expand fully. Since it is new, give a couple days in one spot and see how it goes, mod flow should be fine initially.

    Congrats on the new coral.

How big is it? Years ago I got a good-sized one & it had an anemone shrimp hitching in it!

It is verry small. Looks like 12 heads on it and only measures 1-1.5" x 3/4". Lots of room for it to grow and expand. Last night I saw sweepers and they only got to be about 3" at most.
