I am going to collect some seahorses, pipefish, snails, hermit crabs and waht ever else I can catch to set up a locoal caught saltwater tank. Has anyone ever tried this. I will be collecting in RI in late August.

Yeah I go to school In the New England area and I would look into that. I would think the places that would be the best for seahorses and everything that you are looking for are places that are protected! I know In Mass everywhere that isn't a public beach is protected. I don’t know about RI laws. Check before you get arrested!

Go to CT Area Reef Society and post your question in the forums there. There are several club members who have collected local species and they will be happy to help you.

It looks good I called DEM and there are no laws on taking these type of fish, only gamefish and I have no intention of collecting them. I am not worried about a chiller I keep my tanks in my basement which remains nice and cool all year long. Ijust think of all the stuff in our own backyard and it might be cool to have a local tank.
