I'd save that money and apply it to a real skimmer and then maybe add a carbon reactor. I have never in well not in over 35 to 30 yrs ran a mechanical filter why ? I use a little passive mechanical filter floss in a hang on specimen display cup under the skimmer's outlet , You really never want to hard filter water for a reef tank thats why I often ask myself why do people use these micron filters and filter socks .. Having my tanks water being crystal clear has yet to ever be a issue .
Carbon will remove the true waste products we want to get rid off as will the skimmer .. I totally cleaned out our sump and refugium and over 8 months of total neglect with nothing more this pass weekend then my skimmer and that display cup with some filter floss in it. That included about 2 lbs of Kalk that got away from the reactor last Dec or Jan. I just 1/2 recall the tank was totally white and Ph was 10 or so and it all settled out in the fuge . The aquarium is totally clean and sparkling clear now ORP/redox went from a steady 312 to 390's in less then 12 hrs.

If you really want a filter ? Get a Diatom filter and a skimmer :)
