How old is your tank? Is it cycled? What are your ideas regarding it's future? You need to look into the future about a year and decide now where you are headed if you want a smooth ride (or smoother than most).

First, is it going to be a FOWLR or reef tank. If FOWLR, is it going to naughty or nice? For example, you cannot have a humu humu with a small hawkfish. It will get eaten. Sounds like you want a nice tank.

So give us the details, age of tank, parameters, how much LR and LS you have, etc. and we can go from there

Just make sure that you design the tank in your head before you go forward with your purchase of livestock. Write it down. Start a computer log. And most importantly, be patient. Don't be me. If you look at how much I have in my tank in my signature, you will see way too many fish for a tank my size and age. If I were to do it again, I would have half this amount until I hit the six month mark, then increase again.

There are also types of fish that should be introduced last into the tank because they are very terratorial. You want the others to have defined their terratory before putting in the "problem child".

And never work on impulse. Period.

    There......that will get you started.

From one newbie to another.........good luck. John.

well it's a 90 gallon tank I have about 100 pounds of live rock and a 50 pound texas wholy limestone that I'm told will become live rock once I seed it with some live sand etc...

I am more into the fish that the coral, but I think it would be nice to have some pretty coral of course.

Tank is not cycled yet. I am taking it way slow...

I put tap water in though and everyone on here says to use RO water so I'm thinking about swapping the water out...

    thanks for the reply... !
    Karma to you! :)
