Unfortunately, mandarins are fragile. Clownfish and lawnmowers have both bullied new fish in my tank, so they could be culprits. If you have an overflow, check it. I've found lots of fish in overflows.

I do have an overflow. I can't be certain it's not in there. My guess is my clowns are the culprits.

So sorry! Check every crack and crevice cause i said the same thing until i pulled all the rock out of the tank and sure enough i heard a shaking in one rock! It was him! BTW: Do you have a close up pic on your bubble anemone on the top left corner of your tank? Really pretty!

Well every rock was removed from the tank. The over flow was taken apart. My fuge was turned upside down, and nothing. Im just disappointed. I've waited a long time for this fish.

As for the nem, I have a friend coming over this wknd, has an awesome camera. I will get some close ups. Thanks.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    I understand your disappointment.

So you have an anemone in this tank as well, and what type please?

In the past when a fish goes MIA in my tank, being sure it did not jump or makes it way into the overflow, I just let nature take its course. If the fish is alive it will show again, if dead my CUC mostly likely made short order of the remains. Either way removing rock will not change those 2 basic outcomes. A fish that small will do nothing to the water quality if it perishes.

You might want to rethink housing a Mardarin in the same tank as an anemone, they share the zone in the tank, accidents happen, and are more likely to happen the smaller the tank.

The anemone is a green bubble tip. If the fish indeed perished, I'm pretty sure I'm cuc would take care of it, as I purchased the crew from reef cleaners.
I am still curious why similar situation happened with the purple firefish.
My main culprits are my clowns, my lawnmower blenny, and a shot in the dark (pistol shrimp). I suppose after the last post by Caroline, my anemone???

may have been a mix but he might have ended up in the nem after he died. ive had a tang die and end up in a condy and a wrasse die and end up in my long tentacle... both took me a while to figure out where they ended up.
