I have a 40 breeder with 5 fish. 2 chromis , a fire fish , a clown and a pajama cardinal. Looking to add another fish or two. What's non aggressive and reef safe and won't chow down on my inverts.

Jawfish are neat little guys! I'd get a Pearly or if you've got a cover for the tank, Blue Spots are great to look at. Either way most jawfish have a great personality.

Clown Gobies are not totally reef safe. They are known to nip at SPS, and in some cases have destroyed frags and colonies. Jawfish are also borderline reef safe. They will dump sand over corals building their burrows, which can obviously negatively affect them. A safer option would be something like a Blenny from the Ecsenius genus, such as Midas or Tailspot. A Possum Wrasse would also be a nice addition. This assumes your tank is 100% covered of course.

Interesting about the clown goby.. Have not noticed issue with mine but since you mention it will have to keep an eye on it.

They are reef compatible (not reef safe).. missed that originally when wife picked it up.

    So good catch Marshall

Not all. Possum Wrasses won't touch them at all, nor will Fairy or Flasher Wrasses. A 40B is just a tad too small for all but the smallest of Fairy Wrasses, they almost any Flasher Wrasse should be fine. Worse case is they will nip the snout off of a Nassarius Snail (which my Flame Angel and Tangs do as well).

Went to live aquaria and checked out the wrasse. Nice !! I have always like the wrasse but thought they all are inverts. Figured since my six line did they all would. Think I'll be getting a wrasse. Thanks.

Some people have luck with fish and others do not. Plenty people say they have six line with no issue when others do. So although a general classification is given to a fish (reef compatible or reef safe) you can have some variation in experience for each.

Same with Dogs which are deemed non-bitters yet they bite.. You can only try to plan things out and go with classification and hope what you get falls into that group.

So good luck and wrasse are very cool.

I found out the hard way that wrasses love peppermint shrimp lol, I brought three home and after acclimating added them to the tank, the shrimp didnt even have a chance to hit the sand before two of the three were ripped to shreds by my melanarius wrasse, the third one hid and I never saw it again.
