I bought a purple firefish yesterday. I haven't seen it since acclimation. Are these fish hiders? I know they are jumpers. I search all around the floor, don't believe it jumped.

IME - Firefish can hide pretty well upon introduction to a new tank

so give it a couple of days or so, and hopefully it will make an appearance
I noted mine would hold up in very small crevices at the back of my reef tank
I could see them, if I peered around the side of the tank (just a quick glance and I could see a reflection against that at that time, cleanish back glass)

I'm excited for it to come out of hiding. Really like this fish.

They're great fish. I just got one almost 2 weeks ago and it's been out all over the place and eating well since day 1. :)

Good luck! Post some pics when he comes out!

I know the feeling! I bought a royal gramma 2 days ago and it won't come out of the corner because it gets chased by my damsels. (I have 2 damsels that came with my tank because I bought an established one from craigslist). I'm going to try and trap the damsels tomorrow and trade them in.

My biggest hider was my mccoskers wrasse. I didnt see it for like 4 days after arrival. I was starting to think the CuC did its job cause with no stat changes then it came wondering out on the 4th days evening.

When I first bought my purple fire-fish, I didn't see him for a day or 2 either. Then he'd only come out in like 10 minute increments before going back in his rock-hole.

Now he's constantly out and about.

On the same topic, I put a Chalk Bass in my tank 2 days ago and haven't seen him at all either. I've looked with a flashlight and everything, he's MIA. But not floating, or on the carpet.

    Come out, come out...

I added 3 of the pink and white dartfish the same day. One of them hid, the other two stayed out and played. Then I realized they were knocking the stuffing out of him when he came out. I went back to the LFS and bought 2 more of the same fish. The hider came out and they are out all the time now. I haven't seen them fight since adding the additional 2.
